HARDWARE

The Building Hardware Group represents the interests of manufacturers of hardware fittings for doors and windows ranging from components for the DIY industry to high specification fittings for commercial and public sector building.

The products are distributed through architectural ironmongers, builders’ merchants, ‘sheds’, ironmongers, interior design outlets and OEM customers.

The Group supports its members through:-

§ Technical issues affecting the industry
§ The drafting of European and British standards
§ Membership of ARGE, the European association of national associations of hardware manufacturers
§ The publication of technical best practice guides on European standards, fire and escape fittings, and a CD ROM on CE marking

The Group was created from members of the former Association of Building Hardware Manufacturers (ABHM) after that association had merged with the Door & Shutter Manufacturers’ Association to form the new Door & Hardware Federation.

ABHM, originally formed in 1897, had obtained an enviable reputation for technical excellence, which will continue to be an inspiration to the new federation.

Chairman for this group: David Whitworth
