Bob Perry is the new chairman of the Door & Hardware Federation (DHF). Following his election at the DHF’s annual meeting he said he was determined to make the federation an even more forceful voice in the UK door and hardware industry.
Mr. Perry has been an active member of the DHF, and its predecessor organisation the Association of Building Hardware Manufacturers, for 20 years.
“I’m taking up office at an interesting and critical time for us,” he said. “We are facing stiff challenges but we are also taking the federation into new territories and that is very exciting for us all.”
For the past eighteen months the federation has been restructured and strengthened with the appointment of a full time secretariat. Greater emphasis has been placed on helping members both derive much more commercial benefit from their membership and help them meet the challenges posed by legislation, CE marking and compliance.
Recent initiatives have included the setting up of a factory production control system for members, the creation of a Kitemarked multipoint lock standard and the launch of a high performance enhanced door standard for both metal and timber doors.
Membership of the DHF continues to grow. The federation now represents all the leading players in the industrial and commercial doors & shutters and garage doors sectors and also represents the leading UK manufacturers of building hardware, locks and architectural ironmongery.
Mr Perry said the DHF would continue to attract new members under his chairmanship and would expand into associated areas of the building industry to increase its representation.
Mr Perry paid tribute to retiring DHF chairman David Whitworth. Mr Whitworth has been a leading figure in the industry since he first joined the family business of Laidlaw and Thomson in 1955. Mr Perry presented him with an inscribed mounted lock and a certificate naming him as honorary life member of the DHF.
